* Transforming our Communities for Christ by "being" the Church

What Are COM Groups?

We are the Church. The church is not the building. We invite you to connect into each others lives and live as the family of God. Too many Americans have a strange idea of being a Lone Ranger Christian. This idea that they and God are a duo to take on the world. At Vista, we are passionate about connecting and sharing in gospel living. And that's why you're reading this, right? To do more than just religious activity? To be a part of something bigger than yourself?

We primarily do this through life together in our COM Groups, aka Missional Communities.

A COM group is a community of people (anywhere from 5-20) people who “live life together”. The Scriptures reflect a lifestyle in the church that was more than going through a Bible Study each week with one another and it was much more than going to a worship service on Sundays together. These people enjoyed living life together and suffering together. This was much more than meeting once a week. They ate meals together, took communion together, shared stories together, prayed for and with each other, doubted together, and grew in wisdom together. That was 'community' in the New Testament and what we like to think our COM Groups will be like. There isn’t a monotonous week-to-week routine that is conquered. Instead, some weeks might consist of eating dinner together, praying together, studying Scriptures together, sometimes doing all three of these things together, and sometimes recognizing God leading the group in only one of those areas of community. Community is fellowship at a UT Football game as well as praying over the specific needs of one another. It’s organic. It’s alive. It’s fresh. It’s not controlled or managed. It’s the New Testament Church.

How Do I Join A COM Group?

It’s real easy to be a part of a COM Group... just join in the fun. There is no formal attendance, just an opportunity to be a part of a family. If you see that there is a COM Group near your community, you are welcome to jump in and join the fun of living life together.

Can I Start A COM Group?

Yes! The purpose of COM Groups is to impact the community and grow in communion with Jesus and one another. If God has pressed on you to start a COM group, we simply want to fan the flame that He has ignited. As a result, we at the Vista long to help encourage leaders (shepherds) who feel led to start a COM Group in their home or somewhere significant to them.

How Do I Get Training On Leading A COM Group?

It’s obvious that Jesus led all of those who called themselves disciples. It is even more obvious that Jesus saw the most effective way of doing that was by leading a small group of individuals. The primary call of our pastoral staff is to help equip the saints to be equippers of saints. The Vista will offer training, mentoring, and ongoing friendship for those who want lead a COM Group.
